Benjamin Hall Design, founded in 2011, is a Phoenix-based architecture and design practice. We pride ourselves on searching for an elegant solution that solves more than one problem. We are committed to the lost profession of Master Builder, one who can perform both design and construction tasks. This unique approach provides us valuable insight in order to achieve high quality craftsmanship with a budget conscious mindset. We believe it’s important to be involved from the project conceptualization providing all necessary documents for construction, to fruition. Benjamin Hall design will work side-by-side with contractors, swinging hammers and welding steel to ensure the highest level of craftsmanship.

It was a joy to work with and learn from Benjamin on our project. We were first time homebuilders; from the very beginning, Benjamin engaged with us to learn our preferences and ensure that our build would be beautiful, unique, and practical. After he helped us advocate with the city to get a building permit (using creative means to resolve the often irrational requirements inherent in the permitting process), he used his skills as a Master Builder to offer invaluable insight on every stage of the construction process. Our general contractor often noted the unique plans, instructions, and guidance that Benjamin offered to aid the GC and subs in properly following his design, which is something most architects do not do.
Benjamin's attention to detail in every task he completes is also unrivaled. It is immediately apparent that he cares deeply about each of his projects; none of the decisions he made were based on taking shortcuts or the path of least resistance. Instead, he examined each potential design question with an eye for a creative, unique, and efficient solution. (This analysis was done with very little ego; we often pitched ideas back and forth and settled on an idea that we brainstormed together.) We were also away during a large portion of the construction process and relied heavily on Benjamin to visit the site to issue spot and flag potential problems that others were not experienced enough to see. We trusted Benjamin, because throughout the process, he demonstrated to us an ability to both think many steps ahead to avoid future problems and find creative solutions for any issues that (inevitably) did arise.
It is also worth noting that Benjamin's minimalistic design style is tasteful and classic. We were extremely pleased with how our build turned out and continuously appreciate his artistry.
Throughout a very difficult design, permitting, and building process, we had the confidence that our project would be completed because we had Benjamin's knowledge and support. We have no reservations in recommending him to anyone looking for an architect, as he is a consummate professional who holds himself to the highest standards. -
As first time home owners of a historic 100+ year old house that required lots of work, we didn’t know what a monstrous project we committed ourselves to. After months of wasted time and incredible frustration with our original low-budget architect, Benjamin swooped in and saved our dream. He helped us fix, design and improve our plans to create a unique design that beautifully incorporated the historic with the new.
He’s incredibly talented and thorough with a rare ability to listen and translate what we wanted in a home and why we wanted it into plans with all these small details, materials and forward thinking to help us keep costs down and make the home more functional.
It was obvious Benjamin cared about the design of our home as much as we did. And his expertise with permits and dealing with contractors was invaluable. He really held our hand through the entire process and felt like a partner on our side to make sure that the plans we worked so hard to create together got built the correct way.
I never write reviews, but I now know how stressful renovating a historic home can be. And I try to warn people before they get excited about what a deal they got on their architect. I love my home and only wish we had hired Benjamin from the start. -
Benjamin was recommended to us by family we trusted and has exceeded any expectation we had. We had no idea what the process would be as this was our first time doing any home remodel/build. We had lofty goals for a historic home. Benjamin worked with us on our budget and was patient and listened with intent. He brought new ideas that we could have never dreamt of that now we can’t imagine ever not having in our home. He is innovative, thorough, kind, empathetic and has not only been an amazing architect to work with but someone we now call a friend. I will never and would never hire another architect other than Benjamin. Thanks for giving us a beautifully designed yet functional work of art to live in every day.

Benjamin is an accomplished designer and his attention to detail is incredible. His designs exhibit a mindfulness that permeates throughout his work. As an architect and a contractor, I thoroughly enjoy collaborating with Benjamin. He focusses his energy and efforts on making the best possible architecture. He is always open to suggestion and reevaluating items along the way and this methodology results in incredibly beautiful work. His fabrication abilities and understanding of materials is matched only by his design ability.
